September has been a busy month and we are fast approaching mid-October! Doesn’t time just seem to fly by when you are busy! What I’ve been busy with has been my new website and facebook page. Plus, I’ve also been working on my book!

The book is to help athletes achieve peak levels of performance and combines life coaching and sports psychology principles. I will be making an overview of the book available shortly, so watch this space!
On top of all that, I have been talking to several people on the topic of having more energy to do all the things they want to do. The concept of Energy Management is a relatively new approach in mainstream sports and business, yet the pros have been doing it for years. This first article, in a series, on personal performance, I will highlight some on the comparisons between how an athlete approaches their performance and how we approach our performances in our everyday lives.
An athlete spends much of their time training and preparing for their actual performance. They do whatever they need to do to ensure that their bodies are able to switch themselves on for their race and be at their best. We on the other hand spend more time actually performing rather than preparing.
Another difference between athletes and many of us is recovery time. Many athletes have several months off between race season to rest and recover. We on the other hand usually have three or four weeks off a year and weekends to rest.
If an athlete it injured and not performing optimally, they take action otherwise they risk serious injury. If we are not performing optimally, many of us keep going on! We drag ourselves into work when ill, we take little time off struggling on, and often take longer to regain our health, strength and vitality.
By adopting approaches of athletes in our everyday lives, we can have more energy to do all the things we want to do, and, we can perform like gold-medal winners!
Future newsletters will touch on the how disengaged people are these days and how that affects their performances, what are the energy performance zones and the key foundation areas to consider when wanting to be more engaged, productive and achieve peak levels of performance.

To get you thinking about your energy and perhaps ways you could energize your life, have a think about these questions …
What makes you jump out of bed in the morning excited to get going? When could you do more of this?
What people make you feel good about you and about life? How can you ensure you are always surrounded by these types of people?
What places make you feel energized, refreshed and recharged? What environments help you to feel good?
What activities feel effortless and easy as if you could do them all day without a care about time? What could you do to incorporate elements of that into your day?
Now, think about yourself as an athlete in everyday life …
How much preparation do you do to perform optimally and at peak levels on a continuous basis, versus just for an event?
What could you do to incorporate more recovery time into your everyday life and on the weekends?
What do you need to happen to actually listen to your body and take action to ensure you perform at optimal levels?
